Please be aware that we are continuing to see a record-high number of respiratory disease in dogs! Places where exposure most commonly occurs is at locations that have multiple dogs on the premises at one time and high-traffic dog walking areas. This can include, but is not limited to – boarding facilities, doggy daycare, dog parks, groomers that have multiple dogs on the premises at one time, and apartment complexes with shared walking areas.
Signs include coughing, sneezing, reverse sneezing/snorting, hacking or nasal discharge. This can be with mild symptoms, such as clear or white nasal discharge as well as more severe yellowish-green nasal discharge. We are also seeing subtle signs including red, watery eyes, or mucoid eye discharge and hacking/coughing especially after drinking or exercising. Many of the dogs are acting happy and playful initially but may become lethargic later.
If your dog fits in this social lifestyle, we are also recommending that they have the following vaccines, Bordetella, Canine Influenza, and DHPP, in addition to Rabies and other lifestyle vaccines that they made need. These vaccines are the best protection available at this time to help prevent or lessen the severity of clinical signs.
